The 2008 Capitol Choices list is now available (look for the link under the "New" announcement)! An annotated list will be released in the near future.
I was a voting member of the 10-14 list. All the books on the list are exceptional. However, I do have a few that I particularly loved:
Revolution is Not a Dinner Party
Book of a Thousand Days
Middle School is Worse Than Meatloaf
Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! (we voted on the list *before* the Newbery/Caldecott/Printz were announced-this won the Newbery)
The Wednesday Wars (Newbery Honor)
The Invention of Hugo Cabret (Caldecott Medal)
The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain (Caldecott Honor)
Peak
We had the Newbery, the three Newbery Honors, the Caldecott, and one of the Caldecott Honors on our list (again-we voted a few weeks before the awards were announced!). However, one of the purposes of Capitol Choices is to highlight extraordinary books that do not receive as much attention as they should (Revolution is Not a Dinner Party, for one).
And we start all over again in March!
