April is National Poetry Month

No April fooling! This is National Poetry Month. I know many Fauquier County students have poetry projects; the poetry section is getting a lot of traffic, not to mention the fact that I'm frequently replenishing our poetry display by the children's circulation desk!

There is an abundance of fantastic children's poetry books in our libraries. Here is just a sampling of our wonderful poetry books:

Dog fans should definitely check out Good Dog: Poems and Once I Ate a Pie. Told from the (humorous) perspective of some cute and hilarious canines, these two separate poetry books should yield a favorite poem or two.

Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich is one of my regular go-to Halloween read aloud selections, but it's freakishly funny any time of the year. Admittedly, those familiar with the traditional movie monsters will get the biggest kick out of the poems, but the poems are still quite a scream (particularly a running gag with the Phantom of the Opera).

If you're looking for something a little more reflective, don't miss This is Just to Say: Poems of Apology and Forgiveness. Written from the perspective of a class's school assignment, the poems cover everything from crushes, parents, and pets.

This is just a tiny, tiny fraction of my favorite poetry books for children. Sooo much good stuff out there!
